How to jailbreak iPhone 3GS (XP)

This is for Windows XP, for Windows Vista click here

This guide will walk you through how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS using purplera1n by geohot.

Note: Make sure your iPhone is running firmware 3.0 and you have the latest iTunes version installed

1. Download purplera1n

2. Plug in your iPhone 3GS

3. Wait until iTunes recognizes it

4. Run purplera1n.exe

5. Click on ‘make it ra1n’

6. Purplera1n will then put your device into restore mode

7. It will now send its exploit and upload the payload.

8. It will now reboot your device

Note: Mine did not reboot the first time so I manually rebooted (Hold down the home button and the power button until it reboots). So If your iPhone 3GS does not reboot after 3 minutes, force reboot. After you reboot, close purpler1n, open it back up again and repeat the process.

9. Once it reboots, you will now have a new ‘Freeze’ icon

10. Open up Freeze and tap ‘Install Cydia’

10. Now reboot your device.

That’s it! Once your iPhone reboots you will have Cydia.
